I understand that even paper and crayons are treated as a security hazard.  I sought an explanation of this when I met with Israeli officials and I received none, because there is no explanation.

Israel’s Blockade on Gaza:

Israel maintains a crippling blockade on the 1.5 million Palestinians who call Gaza home.  The Israeli blockade prohibits everything from cement and lightbulbs to footballs and musical instruments from entering Gaza.  Israel bans virtually all Gaza exports as well, crippling the local economy.

As a result, Gazan Palestinians suffer rates of 40% unemployment and 80% poverty.  They are heavily dependent on international aid for day-to-day survival.

True peace and reconciliation in the region will not be possible until Israel lifts the blockade.  Let Gaza live.
